Choo Choo! Come to Terra Toys on July 15, 2010, 1:00 to 3:00pm to paint your own train. Terra Toys provides materials and instruction, including a wooden boxcar or tanker that fits on any standard wooden railway (cars are made by the same company that makes Thomas the Train Wooden Railway). This year’s Fairy Tea Party was a big success! Over the course of the two-hour event, more than 100 excited kids participated. Many arrived in delightful costumes with wings, glitter, capes. Children made the rounds to several tables, each station providing the next step in the fairy-making craft, and ending with tea and cookies. Kids also received tickets for free face-painting three doors down at our new children’s shoe store, kidOshoe.
In fact, the whole party was so cool that our Gretchen made the front page of today’s Austin American-Statesman’s Metro section.

It’s time again for our most popular event of the year – the fairy tea party! Kids of ALL ages are invited to dress up as fairies or goblins, witches or warlocks, and come make a fairy craft. Cute and fun, and the cookies are always scrumptious. Thursday, June 17th, 1:00 to 3:00p.m. This is a free event.

Duncan Yo-Yo is celebrating their 80th anniversary with a world tour, and can you guess where they’re stopping? Terra Toys!
Come to Terra Toys on October 28th, 4-6pm, to watch an amazing demonstration. Three super-cool, award-winning Duncan dudes will perform stunts, teach tricks, and help aspiring yoyoists choose the right gear. Different yo-yos are suited for different tricks and styles, so get some good advice while you’re here. Also, take your pick of special merchandise exclusive to this tour. We will have music, snacks, and tons of fun. This is a free event.
John Maverick, a longtime Austin favorite, has put together a magic kit of his own design. This October, he will visit the store to demonstrate the tricks in his kit, and teach a few of them. Aspiring magicians are invited to take a lesson from the Master of Magic himself. The kit will be available for purchase in the store. This is a free event!

For the past two years, our Paint Your Own Train event has been a big success. Terra Toys provides a blank wooden train and lots of supplies so you can create the train of your dreams! The boxcars and tankers come from the same company that makes Thomas Tank Engines. You can copy Thomas and his friends, or create something entirely original. And because they are standard-sized, they are compatible with Thomas, BRIO, Nuchi, and other wooden railway sets. Kids as young as 3 can do this activity, but we recommend that all children are accompanied by an adult helper.
This year the Texas Legislature expanded the list of items qualifying for exemption from sales taxes during Tax Free Weekend. That means even more stuff is tax-free!
Terra Toys and Dragonsnaps Children’s Clothing sell many of the back-to-school items which are tax free. And although lots of places sell clothes and school supplies, you may agree that ours often rank higher in terms of uniqueness and beauty. Think of us when you go tax-free shopping this year!
